A jury of five industry professionals voted to not advance your project. The judges were in agreement your production had a decent idea but the execution was below average.
Where your film scored the weakest was in performance. One judge was impressed with the opening titles but continued they weren’t a big fan of ‘poop humor.’ Another judge thought the music was a bit forced in places that didn’t need music. A third judge “enjoyed the intended quirky humor of this film but the sluggish editing couldn’t support the pace needed for the cartoonish story and characters.” Two judges agreed the writing snowballed downhill getting worse at the end. All in all the consensus was the film had it’s moments but failed to sustain interest.
Microsoft announced Project Natal at the E3 Conference yesterday:::: I don’t think I would ever use this (I hate the Wii too), but it’s fascinating nonetheless…
I completed the first draft to my first ever attempt at a feature film tonight. It’s 88 scenes in 81 pages. 3 acts of beauty. There are A LOT of changes to be made still, but I’m happy to have the first draft done. It’s pretty much a second draft since I had the whole thing written out as a treatment before I started putting it into script format.
The current working title is: “My Experience as an Intern in the Summer of 1985″
I’ll be sending it to a few people for critiques once I complete a few more drafts. In the meantime I’ve got a few short ideas stuck in my head…
Now I just need to find somebody that can operate The Red or a 16mm Film Camera.
No, I’m still here. There’s really nothing to talk about though. Marathon is getting trashed by the festivals and I’m busy writing my new feature length script, “Touching Base”. It’s a comedy based on the corporate offices of Southwestern Bell in 1985. I’m currently holding a pace of 3-5 pages a day. I’m finished with Act 1 and working through Act 2.
What’s my main character’s name, you ask?
Steve Rennier, of course.
It looks like another short film might be in order this summer. Probably about Monopoly or Wizards or something…
My friend Brandon Rice finished his short film “Tiny Romance” not too long ago. Check out the trailer - it looks really funny. I’m too late on the screenings at The Moxie (April 20 and 21) in Springfield, MO but check it out anyway.
The Golden Sombrero in baseball is the inglorious feat of striking out 4 times. We’re beyond that now. Marathon is 0 - 5. Most of these aren’t suprising, but still a bummer.
REJECTED TO:
CineVegas - a Tier 1 festival that only accepts 20 shorts. this was expected.
Cannes - really? i thought we’d get in. no. we never had a chance but it’s free to submit so i did it anyway.
Santa Cruz FF - this one i was holding out hope for. it’s a tier 2 festival that’s been around for about 10 years.
London Indy FF - i thought we’d get into this one for sure. they love micro-budget films.
NYC Downtown FF - i don’t know much about this one, but we didn’t get in.
It took me a while but I finally got around to watching Slumdog Millionaire. Normally I hear about these super-hyped movies and they never live up to the bill. But this movie was really, really good. I loved the story. It had a perfect mix of the love story with humor and suspense. Very interesting characters. The only thing I thought was kind of strange was Salim’s actions in the end. His actions seemed a little out of character. Other than that, the musical score was fantastic.
